Graduate Management Admission Test

Overview

GMAT Exam 2026: Exam Dates, Registration, Test Centre, Eligibility & Results

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test which is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) for around 50 years to measure business aptitude in graduate candidates. A completely revised GMAT 11th Edition is a computer, adaptive test (CAT) of 2 hours 15 minutes duration with three sections Quantitative Reasoning (QR), Verbal Reasoning (VR), and Data Insights (DI). All these parts together assess problem identification and solving, critical thinking, data analysis, and communication skills through multiple, choice questions. Even though the majority of candidates taking the GMAT are MBA hopefuls, a GMAT score is typically required for MIM, MS in Management, and various other business related courses.

The GMAT grants candidates the liberty of flexible formats, both at designated test centers and the convenience of an at home online exam. In India, the price for sitting the exam is USD 275 for the center, based test and USD 300 for the at home test. The registration process remains open all year, with seats for exams that can be booked from 6 months ahead to as late as 24 hours prior to the test. The GMAT 11th Edition, which is brief and highly effective, represents less of a challenge and is more convenient to applicants worldwide who intend to pursue a graduate degree in business.

What is GMAT?

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test that is commonly used to evaluate applicants who want to go abroad for graduate business education such as MBA, Master in Management (MIM), MS in Management, and other courses in the same field.

The exam consists of three sections i.e. Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights which are designed to test one's analytical skills, logical reasoning and critical thinking abilities.

Significantly, the GMAT does not assume the candidate to have any prior management knowledge or business background. It tests the basic math and verbal skills that are expected of business school students, hence candidates from all sorts of academic disciplines may take it. It is not a worry for students without a management background as the test is intended to assess one's logical and analytical skills and not their knowledge of specific subjects.

GMAT Eligibility For Indian Students 2026

As such, GMAC (the organisation that conducts GMAT) does not specify GMAT eligibility criteria to appear for the exam. There is no minimum educational requirement while registering for GMAT. Basic eligibility for GMAT is as follows:

  • The candidate must be 18 years of age. It is needed for postgraduate courses so there is no upper age limit. But those between 13 and 17 years old, must have an NOC from their parents or a legal guardian to take the GMAT exam.

  • Since GMAT is a standardized exam required for postgraduate admissions, having a bachelor's degree is generally better.

  • No work experience is required to be furnished for eligibility for GMAT Focus.

  • Nothing has changed much after GMAT Focus came into play.
